Indy hires Fairview coach

Jarrett Jones will jump from Fairview to Independence in boys’ basketball.

Independence High School announced Thursday that Jones has been hired as the new head boys’ basketball coach. Jones succeeds Greg Glass, who stepped down to take an administrative position on May 1.

“When I saw coach Glass was leaving, I was immediately interested,” said Jones, who has coached the past two seasons at Fairview. “I love everything about this place. I talked to (assistant principal) Kurt Jones about the opening and I knew I had to throw my name in the hat for this one.”

Jones, who has eight years of each coaching experience, guided the Yellow Jackets to their first region tournament appearance since 1998 last season. He said it’s bittersweet to leave Fairview, but he’s “excited for the new challenge and opportunity.”

Jones has had previous coaching stints at Liberty Tech High School where he led the Crusaders to a 33-3 record and a TSSAA Class AA state championship in 2011.  Jones went 62-10 in two seasons at the Jackson school before leaving for Antioch.
