After a successful run at Pearl-Cohn (Tenn.) High School, Kandra Bailey is ready for another challenge, one that will bring her to Gwinnett County.
The 30-year-old has been named as the new head girls basketball coach at Discovery, which had a vacancy to replace Tamara Brooks, the program’s only coach in its young history. Brooks built the Titans from nothing into a competitive team last season, but she plans to teach at the new Paul Duke STEM High School and step away from coaching, Discovery athletic and activities director Chris Hall said.
Her replacement is a Tennessee native who targeted the Atlanta area, where she has family, for her next task.
“I’m very excited (about Discovery),” Bailey said. “It’s something fresh and new. I had the opportunity to watch a little bit of the things they did last year. I’m excited to keep it going from what they’ve already been doing so far. … I have a lot of family down in that area and I was looking to relocate. There were a couple of jobs open but I only applied for this one. It seemed like a great fit.
